European Oak Sawn Timber

Oak, European Quercus robur

An iconic hardwood found in Britain since the last Ice Age, oak has been prized for thousands of years for its beauty, density, strength and resistance to decay. Oak is high value and takes over 70-80 years to become a croppable asset. Ideally the diameters need to be over 80cm to give best yield in conversion into through and through planks.

Its golden biscuit colouring will weather to a soft silvery-grey if used externally and its attractive grain make it a popular choice for many applications. Oak can be stained, polished, waxed, and glues well.

European Oak has traditionally been used for structural joinery (beams and timber frames), cladding, joinery, furniture and cabinet making. The hardness of the wood, with its excellent impact resistance, makes it an ideal choice for flooring, window frames and doors.
