Peter Harknett Oak Shakes - Ideal for church spires
£270.44 (inc VAT) per m2. Minimum order - 35 m2.
Peter Harknett Oak Shakes have been designed specifically for use on church spires and other ecclesiastical projects. Peter was a well-known and revered steeplejack. A fabulous and colourful character, Peter worked all over the South of England and in the Middle East - he was totally fearless and once rode a bicycle round the top of Guildford Cathedral smoking his pipe! He pioneered the use of oak shakes over Western Red Cedar shingles both for longevity and their greater resistance to the increasing population of green woodpeckers.
Peter Harknett Oak Shakes are hand cleft and are shorter and thicker than standard oak shakes. This makes them ideal for use on church spires as the shorter length means they are better able to follow the spire broach curve and the greater thickness significantly increases their longevity. They are hand split, random width and machine cleaned on the back. Bevelled and chamfered at the butt.
