Western Red Cedar shakes have a distinctive warm, reddish-brown colour. They are durable, lighter in weight than larch or oak and sustainable, making them an excellent alternative to traditional roof and wall tiles. Sourced from Canada.
Our standard western red cedar shakes are all hand radially cleft to give an 80% fully quartered shake 20% billet. The shakes are bevelled and chamfered at the butt end.

Price per bundle - £193.00 inc VAT. Each bundle contains approx. 1.33m2 coverage with a 140mm exposure.

Length - 450mm
Thickness - 12-15mm approx. at the butt
Widths - Shakes are supplied in random widths and the packs calculated for a given coverage. They should be used ‘as they come’, packs should not be sorted for widths. Western red cedar shakes are generally 80mm and wider.
Coverage
Each bundle contains 9.5 linear metres of elements (laid side by side).
1 bundle on a roof with a 3-ply lay up will cover - 1.33m2. 22 degree pitch and greater for roofs.
1 bundle on a wall with a 2-ply lay up will cover - 1.63m2. 71 to 90 degrees for walls.
Roof: 3-ply lay up with a 140mm exposure. Wall: 2-ply layup with a 200mm exposure. Allow for approx. 3mm gap between the shakes.
Fixing with a ‘thumb’s distance’ in from the two long edges.
Expected Life
General life expectancy is 45 - 65 years (Southern elevations being the most hostile).
